Career
Ryan has made appearances on quiz shows Fifteen to One and The Weakest Link, and was a member of the team, The Gamblers, on Only Connect who won the third series of the show. She has also appeared on University Challenge, helping the University of Leeds to reach the semi-finals in 2003.
Moreover, she featured in both series of the spin-off quiz show Are You an Egghead? in 2008 and 2009, and appeared on Mastermind, choosing the American television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer as her specialist subject. Ryan was also the highest placed British woman at the 2008 European Quizzing Championships.
Ryan wrote questions for the pilot episode of The Chase in 2009. She joined the show in 2015, making her debut appearance on 2 September. She was recommended for The Chase by Anne Hegerty, as they had both competed together on the same quiz team, where Ryan was the captain of the team. Her nickname on the show is The Vixen, in reference to her red hair; she is also referred to as The Bolton Brainiac for her place of residence.
As of February 2018, Ryan ranks as the strongest chaser on the UK version of the show with an overall win percentage of 80.0%. Her Series 10 showing of 25 wins in 27 appearances set a new record for the strongest performance by a chaser in a single series. This represents a major improvement on her early performances. In May 2016, after her first 22 episodes, Ryan was ranked as statistically the weakest chaser, with a win rate of just 63.6%.
